The goblin check
Run through this before anyone touches your pipes. RenoMe helps with two of them.
- Do they have a license?Look for the green shield: the app matched their license to NYC records. In New York City, home improvement work over $200 needs a DCWP license, and plumbers and electricians are licensed by the Department of Buildings. Goblins just say "Yeah!"
- Do they have insurance?Insurance on RenoMe profiles is self-reported, and RenoMe doesn't check it. Ask for a certificate of insurance; co-op and condo buildings usually require one before work starts.
- Is it in writing?NYC's consumer agency says to sign a written contract before work starts, to pay no more than 25% upfront and never to pay in cash.
- Did you see their face? Two minutes on video tells you a lot. Goblins prefer the phone.

Real estate agents: price the renovation before the listing goes live
A dated kitchen or bath is the first thing buyers push back on. With RenoMe you can get a real renovation number from a contractor before the listing goes to market, so buyers see a priced line item instead of a question mark. Choose Real Estate Agent when you sign up, post the project and meet the contractor on video.
Store owners: show the space between customers
Renovating your shop, salon or restaurant? Post the project the same way a homeowner does, walk a contractor through the space on a live video call when it suits you, and get a real quote. Choose Store Owner when you sign up.
Questions
Will contractors call me nonstop?
No. One contractor calls at a time, and the next one calls only when you ask.
Do I need to be at the property for the call?
It helps: the point is to show the space on camera.
What does it cost?
Nothing. RenoMe is free for homeowners.
Can I tell who's licensed?
Look for the green shield: it means the app checked the license. License and insurance labels without the shield show what the contractor typed, and RenoMe hasn't checked them.
Ready when you are.
Download RenoMe, post your project and request your first call when it suits you. Free for homeowners in all five boroughs.
